Since more than two years we are working on this plugin in our spare time, and a lot of things changed since then.
The last year and half neither of us (Edgar and i) use wordpress any more in our diary work.
so, work on magic fields is hard because, create new features, or fix bugs for a software to i’m not using right now for free is not very motivating.
For that i think to is time to take a break, i will stop to work on Magic Fields for a while, i want take a look in a new projects, get new ideas maybe for this plugin or for any new project.
Magic Fields tought me a lot about how works the free software, and i’m very grateful for that.
Magic fields will continue development by Edgar (and any one who want to help in the development of MF) , i’m the only one who will take a break so, i think the new versions will be releases a little more slower but will be continue.
David aka Gnuget.

David,
Thank you so much for your time and effort. The open source and WordPress communities owe you a massive debt.
On behalf of myself, my clients and the users who get to enjoy the fruits of MF please accept my deepest thanks.
I’m hoping in the new year to help contribute to the ongoing development to this wonderful plugin.
Thanks again David
Hey David,
Sounds good that you are taking care of yourself. But don’t forget that we’re a huge bunch of users who WANT to pay for this plugin, who WANT it to be a premium plugin – because we have come to depend on it. For some reason, it seems like you don’t want to make money on Magic Fields, which is something that puzzles me considering you name “working for free” as a reason for the work not being motivating.
You have gold on your hands with Magic Fields. If you took the leap and marketed it properly, you could make a living off of it *easily*!
If you’re leaving the team, I hope you will make it easier for us others to contribute.
Thanks for your hard work so far. Enjoy your break
Eivind
Hey David,
Thank you so much for the time you’ve put forth into Magic Fields. It’s truly a great plugin. I wish you the best of luck in whatever you do.
Take care.
You have saved me a lot of time with Magic Fields 2. As a beta plugin, it is still far ahead of most WordPress plugins out there. I’ll be sure to submit patches on GitHub from time to time.
This is the best custom fields plugin available, please keep it going
I too am willing to pay.
I agree with what Eivind said. You guys were thinking about making MF a premium plugin, but a couple people said it wasn’t a good idea, so you backed off.
I think that was incorrect. I would gladly pay for MagicFields, since it’s an indispensable tool in my WordPress development. I fear that the plugin will wither away or become incompatible with future WordPress updates.
I paid $200 for a Gravity Forms developer license, and I’ve never once regretted it. I would gladly pay you guys for making such an awesome plugin if it will keep development going.
Thanks for all your work in the past. I really like Magic Fields and think it’s one of the best WordPress plugins out there. I do agree with the others that if you did a free version and a pay version with more features I would be very willing to help you guys out (similar to what Advanced Custom Fields does).
What is Edgar’s plan for this plugin? Is he going to be actively keeping it up to date or should this become mainly a github type of project?
We’re trying to create a structure for our web development business. We’ve adopted WP as my CMS of choice for client sites and assembling tools we’ll be using. We are thinking loooooong term and have invested in genesis and gravity forms already and will be willing to invest in MF too if its premium. O BTW, I’m from from Nigeria.
Hello,
There was a new version of Magic Fields released today, who is responsible for this update? Does this contain bugfixes to work with the latest version of WordPress?
Thanks!
Edgar and a few users of magic fields continue working on the plugin.
And yes, this release contain bugfixes for work with WP 3.3.x
Hi Gnuget,
That’s excellent news, thank you very much!
I agree with Eivind and Chris that I would pay for a premium MF plugin (I also pay for Gravity Forms).
I have quite a few sites using the first MF version… I am now worried that these sites will eventually no longer work with new WP upgrades. Are you continuing to work on both MF and MF2?
Thanks, too, for all your work! I have loved using MF and hope to be able to in the future.
Yes, MF1 will continue maintained until exists a stable option for migrate between versions.
Thanks for your interest in a premium version of Magic Fields, we are planning about this.
Gnuget — great to hear!
Hi Gnuget,
I’m still having problems with TinyMCE working with the latest version of MF2 + latest version of WordPress. Tried installing the latest version of TinyMCE over the version on the wp directory but still it didn’t help. Is there some way to fix this I’m not aware of?
Thanks!
