This year started with many changes in our personal lives in consecuence of this the development of magic fields has been very slow until now
But we don’t leave the development we are still working in the next version (1.4) and actually with this release all the things to we want to fix from the original project will be finish.
For that for the future releases we want to know all the suggestions from you and start to add the more popular requested features in Magic Fields. for that in the wiki of the project was created a page called “wish list” where if you want to see a particular feature in magic fields fell free to add that feature in the wish list and we will start to evaluate which features will be added in the future..
In another hand, this last two months with no much movement in the development we see a lot of comments and possible bugs in the comments of the blog or as a messages in the mailing list.
Well, we think to is a good moment to start to manage the bugs in a better way, if you found a bug and in the mailling list don’t be able to get a answer of your problem or if someone else has the same bug and is something to you can replicate without problems feel free to open a issue here:

Just leave a little description of the bug and leave a little list of the step to you follow to replicate the bug and which operative system are installed in the server where you are using magic Fields and in which browser are you use for see the issue, with this information we can start to fix any bug.
just for finish, this version of Magic Fields come with a bunch of features and optimizations for that the time for test this version will be bigger the next version of magic fields will be launched the 21 of march.

One thing I’m trying to figure out is if I upload an image through a write panel field it saves to:
wp-content/files_mf/
and the file name contains additional characters:
1269362969myimage.jpg
Is there any way for it to upload to wp-content/uploads
as normal and the file name remain:
myimage.jpg ?
If not are you able to include in the next version?

Webteilchen , We had quite a good workload in recent weeks, we’re a little late in time, wait for the end of this month to get the beta and a few weeks after the new tag
oh! and I also added an issue to the issues list. Obviously things may change, but currently there a few problems with this plugin on the 3.0 beta. Categories for write panel always go to uncategorized, and I’m hoping for post-type support.

There’s more information here about how to include code for groups/fields that are duplicated that is nowhere to be found on this website.
ALSO… I’m trying to figure out how to show a duplicated group in Descending order, so that the first item added, shows up last on the list. Any ideas? I’m not really a PHP programmer.
I would also like to be able to insert just a simple text field — with no tags wrapped around it. I could not really find an easy solution to grab just a URL. If I used file, then it would append the file directory to the front of it. Instead, I had to use just a regular custom field, and then couldn’t include it as part of my group.

Yeah we all are very disappointed for this. unfortunately we need pay our debts and Magic Fields don’t receive enough donations for do it.
So, we can’t guarantee a date release because we don’t know how much charge of work we will have in the next months.
The good news is to we already finish all the things to we want for this new version and the development version is ready for enter in a test phase, if do you want help us to release magic fields 1.4 a soon as possible help us testing it

We expected release a beta version this week for testing but not is neccesary to you wait for it, you can start downloading the development version and start testing it
Have there been any speed improvements or optimizations since you started on the project? I am mainly concerned with two things:
1. wp-admin: management panels large data sets (flutter is known to bog)
2. get() function, however I’m not sure you can do much here. A query is a query.

Yes one of our main concerns with this plugins is improve the performance.
The get function is one of our more bigger improvements in magic fields this function was completely rewrote, and improved his performance in a 75%
And was created a new functions for dealing with duplicate groups and fields (get_field_duplicated,get_group) how this funcitons are exclusive for duplicate fields and groups we avoid make multiple calls to the get function.
Talking about wp-admin, in the next release MF will have a new engine for save the custom fields with this change is the first step for improve the performance in the admin
It’s very important that Magic Fields fixes the bug whereby you click the “add new”-button in the manage console of a write panel and it defaults to creating something completely different from the active write panel.
